Fairknowe House Care Home to lose licence if service not 'significantly improved'
The Care Inspectorate will recommend axing registration if January date not met
A South Ayrshire care home is at threat of having its registration to operate cancelled if they don’t show ‘significant and urgent improvement’ in the service it provides to patients.
Fairknowe House - which looks after dementia patients - has been slammed by Scotland’s watchdog The Care Inspectorate following two November visits to the Maybole nursing facility.
Issues around patient dignity, respect and privacy alongside questions over service users choosing when they wish to get up in the morning have all been detailed in the report.
Observations of the ‘competence of staff practice’ have also been flagged by the national auditor.
Fairknowe’s parent company Mead Medical Services Limited have now been given until January 19th 2025 to fix problems highlighted or face potential closure.
A spokesperson for the Care Inspectorate said: "We understand this is a difficult and distressing time for people experiencing care, their families and staff at the service.
"However, our first priority is always the health and wellbeing of individuals.
"We are in contact with and monitoring the service to follow up on the required improvements.
"If we are not satisfied that sustained improvement has been made we will not hesitate to take further action.
"Anyone with a concern about a service can contact us on 0345 600 9527."

Fairknowe’s nutrition and hydration of patients also came under fire during The Care Inspectorate visit, with management told to ensure patient records are maintained, advice from healthcare professionals recorded and charts are used to monitor the food and fluid intake of service users.
It also read: “The provider must ensure that there are suitably qualified and competent people working in the service to effectively support the health, welfare, and safety of service users.
“To do this, the provider must ensure, at a minimum, that members of staff are appropriately supervised and that they are supported to provide safe and high-quality care.”
This isn’t the first time inspection staff have had to issue warnings to Fairknowe.
In November 2023, the home was ordered to ‘up its game’ following an inspection.
This was after a complaint had been made about an unknown ‘serious incident’ at the service provider in September if the same year.
