Local woman Caitlin McQuade spotted the set-up and took to Facebook to search for answers: “Was walking down Eglinton park for my dad’s birthday and saw these movie set-looking buildings and scaffolding, wonder what’s happening? Blue brick for a blue screen use?”

It has since emerged scenes for the Starz series Outlander are set to be shot there.

The series, starring Sam Heughan and Caitríona Balfe has been on air since 2014 and has been nominated for a number of Emmy and Golden Globe awards.

Several other locations in Ayrshire have been used as locations for the show, including Troon, Dean Castle in Kilmarnock and Dunure Harbour.

It is believed filming in Eglinton Park will begin in the middle of August.
