A pensioner has died from injuries suffered during a midweek car crash in Monkton.

On Thursday last week, an accident involving a silver Mercedes A200 and a red Renault Captur took place on the A77.

The collision, roughly a half mile south of the Dutch House Roundabout, closed the road for just over six hours, with two people – a man and a woman - rushed to hospital.

The police have now confirmed the man passed away on Sunday.

The woman remains in a serious condition.

Sergeant Martin Cunningham of Irvine Road Policing said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this very difficult time.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are appealing to anyone who has not already spoken to officers to get in touch if you can assist.

“If you were driving in the area and have dash-cam footage that could help with our investigation then please contact us.”

Police say both patients were in the Renault Captur at the time of the crash.
