Fired-up Rangers Players Please Boss Mark Warburton

Rangers boss Mark Warburton was delighted to see his angry players rowing after their 3-0 win over Livingston.

Gers made it 10 wins out of 10 under the former Brentford manager thanks to goals from Lee Wallace, Martyn Waghorn and Nicky Law.

But it was a display missing much of the excitement and verve that has lit up Ibrox at times this season.

Warburton has set high standards since taking over but did not feel the need to read the riot act to his troops as he revealed how he stood back and listened as the Gers players vented their frustration at one another after the final whistle.

He said: 'We fell way below our standards today. There is no lack of respect to the opposition - far from it - but we know that today we didn't move the ball well. We didn't take care of it. We didn't create enough chances. We dropped too deep.'

'But the good thing from that is that we had an inquest. The players demanded it and we let them talk. The players were angry because they weren't at the right level this afternoon. They had a few heated words and that's great because we will work hard this week and demand even more.'

'That's a healthy thing to do. We have to recognise that we can't go steamroller teams every week. There are some really good teams in this league, so we have to take care and make better decisions.'

'If we'd had to go in there and shout at them it would be a different case. But Davie Weir, Jim Stewart and I wanted them to respond. Let them talk and see what their reaction was.'

'Their reaction was an angry one, which is great - I'm delighted with that.'

Gers put five past Raith Rovers in a scintillating afternoon of football last weekend, but even without that sparkle they were too good for Ladbrokes Championship basement boys Livi.

Lee Wallace fired his side ahead with a fiercely hit drive 16 minutes in, while Waghorn slotted in off the post for number two just before the break.

The second half was a tame affair but substitute Law came on to wrap up the points 10 minutes from time as he fired into the roof of the net.

Gers continue to top the division by five points. Livingston, though, are stuck at the bottom with just one point from six games.

Boss Mark Burchill said: I think anyone who was watching would see that the gulf between Rangers and Livingston isn't anywhere near as big as anyone was expecting. I have absolutely no doubt that Livingston will get ourselves out of this pretty soon. I am looking in that dressing room and I feel I had some good performances there.''
