Thousands Of Fake DVDs Scooped By Glasgow Cops

Thousands of counterfeit DVDs and CDs have been seized by police acting on intelligence.

Officers searched a business premises in Maryhill Road and a residential property in Kiniver Drive, Blairdardie, both in Glasgow, on Wednesday 11 and Friday 13 March.

Along with the counterfeit media they also discovered specialist manufacturing equipment during their search.

Everything seized will now be destroyed.

Specialist trained officers worked with local divisional officers, assisted by colleagues in Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT) and the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) during the operation.

Chief Inspector David Pettigrew, of Police Scotland, said: This was an intelligence led operation, in which we are ably assisted by our colleagues in FACT and BPI. A number of inquiries are continuing, however, one thing is clear: a significant amount of counterfeit items have been seized along with specialist equipment which has the capability to reproduce such products. All will be destroyed.

This will no doubt have an impact on those in the local area involved in criminal activity, and who are looking to profit from illegal activities.
