Teenagers ambush drivers on Coatbridge motorway
A couple in their 50's needed hospital treatment after their car came under attack with bricks and bottles.
Police are appealing for help to catch a gang of teenagers who sat beside a motorway in Lanarkshire and hurled bricks and glass bottles at passing cars.
A man and woman in their 50's had to be treated in hospital after their car was hit on a slip road at Junction 2 of the M73 at Bargeddie near Coatbridge on Saturday evening.
The group who are believed to have been between 14 and 17 years old, were standing on a grassy verge looking down onto the southbound carriageway.
They began throwing bricks and glass bottles at the cars coming off the slip road on the Bargeddie side of the motorway, damaging four vehicles.
A 54 year old man and a 53 year old woman were injured and went to Monklands Hospital for treatment before being released.
The first youth is described as male and wearing a dark hooded top with a yellow hood.
The second youth is described as male, with ginger hair and wearing jogging bottoms.
The third youth is described as male and wearing a white top with a large logo on the chest.
The fourth youth is described as male and wearing a grey top and grey jogging bottoms.
Detective Sergeant Alan MacDonald from Airdrie CID said: “This type of behaviour is extremely dangerous and could have resulted in a fatality due to the mindless action of those responsible.
“It would have still been daylight around the time of the incident and I would appeal to any drivers or members of the public who saw what happened to get in touch.
“Anyone with information can contact officers on 101.”
