Teenager critical after collision with car in East Kilbride

A teenager's in a critical condition in hospital after he was struck by a car in East Kilbride on Wednesday afternoon.

The 16-year-old boy was crossing Eaglesham Road, near to its junction with Windward Road when he was struck by a Toyota Yaris at around 4.30pm.

He was taken by ambulance to Hairmyres Hospital, then later transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he is being treated for a serious head injury.

The 36-year-old driver of the car was uninjured but badly shaken as a result of the crash.

Police are appealing any witnesses to the incident to call them on the 101 number.
