Six newborn puppies abandoned in Glasgow park
Six newborn puppies were found abandoned late at night in a park in Glasgow last Thursday.
The Scottish SPCA took the crossbreed pups in after a member of the public discovered them abandoned and shivering in a box in Robroyston Park at around 10pm.
One of the puppies tragically died but its siblings are now receiving round the clock care at the charity’s animal rescue and rehoming centre in Lanarkshire.
The animal welfare charity is urging anyone with information about the dogs to come forward.
Animal Rescue Officer Amy Robb said, “The puppies are around a week old and don’t yet have their eyes open.
“They were found around 10pm on a cold night and they were shivering.
“These puppies are far too young to be away from their mum and we are concerned for her welfare as she will be extremely distressed at having her puppies taken away from her so soon.
“This was a very cruel act and we would urge anyone who knows who may have dumped these helpless animals to contact our helpline on 03000 999 999.”
Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006. Anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
Anyone with information is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
