Police identify body found in the Forth and Clyde Canal

69-year-old Neil Malloy had been missing since Thursday.

Police have named the elderly man who was discovered dead in the Forth and Clyde Canal.

The body of Neil Malloy was found in the water on Monday afternoon at Bainsford, near Falkirk.

The 69-year-old, who's from Falkirk, had been the subject of an extensive search since being reported missing on Thursday July 7.

His death is being treated as unexplained.

Sergeant Andrew Wright who is based at Grangemouth police station said: “My thoughts and the thoughts of my officers are with Neil’s family and we will continue to offer them support as and when they need it.

“We are currently treating Neil’s death as unexplained however there are no suspicious circumstances at this time.

"I'd also like to thank to members of the public who came forward and assisted us with this inquiry."
