Detectives at Coatbridge are continuing enquiries following an assault with intent to rob in at a post office in Kilsyth.

At around 4.25pm on Friday 3rd June 2016, a man entered the Post Office on Backbrae Street and threatened staff with a knife. He demanded money, but when staff raised the alarm he made off empty handed in an unknown direction. No-one was injured in the incident, however, members of staff were left in a state of shock.

The suspect is described as a white man, around 5 ft. 9, approximately 30 years-old with short dark hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing a purple/blue t-shirt, white and blue ‘Hawaiian style’ beach shorts and dark trainers with black socks (not pulled high). He was also carrying a dark rucksack with an orange Adidas logo.

Detective Constable Joe Todd, from Coatbridge CID, said today:

“We know from the CCTV footage we have analysed that the suspect was standing around in the area prior to the failed robbery. The streets were busy at the time of the incident, so it is possible that the public encountered the suspect on Main Street or West Burnside Street prior to the incident on Backbrae Street at around 1625 hours.”

“It is critical we trace the man responsible. Any information you have, no matter how small, could make a real difference as part of our broader investigation.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact CID officers at Coatbridge Police Office on 101. Alternatively, please call CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
