The family of John Murphy say they are "devastated" after police have confirmed a body found in a country park is that of the missing father-of-five from Glasgow.

The 52 year old disappeared from his home in the Dennistoun area last May.

His loved ones were among other relatives of missing people informed after human remains were discovered at Mugdock Country Park in Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire, on March the 15th.

His son John Murphy Junior has posted on Facebook: "This has been such a difficult few weeks for us waiting to hear but it has been officially confirmed today.

"I really want to thank everyone for all of your help, there is not much more we could have done and we wouldn't have handled things as well without all your love and support.

"There are no suspicious circumstances and we will have more information as the days go on. I'm truly devastated this is the outcome we have, we had so much hope of getting a good outcome, but we will now look to mourn our dad and try and move on with our lives in time. Thanks again for everything."

Police say post-mortem has taken place and the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.
