Paige Doherty: Family heartbreak after her killer's guilty plea
Paige's mum Pamela revealed how she continues to suffer “sleeplessness and nightmares”.
Paige's “heartbroken” family had provided a number of moving victim impact statements to the court.
Her mum Pamela revealed how she continues to suffer “sleeplessness and nightmares”.
Prosecutor Mr McSporran said: “She describes waking to hear her daughter's screams and the awful realisation that she was not there to help her.”
Pamela also listed a number of events they will be deprived of – including her daughter's wedding day and a trip to New York.
Mr McSporran added: “Even her 16th birthday was denied her. The effect on her siblings – and the loss suffered by her many friends – are all set out in touching detail.”
He described the mum as a “strong personality” who had “thrown herself” into various events in Paige's name.
He added: "No doubt as her way of coping with the loss of her first born child in such awful circumstances.”
Her husband Andrew Munro – Paige's step-father – was said to be “living in a state of depression”.
The advocate depute added: “They cannot get out of their minds the terror they believe Paige must have experienced as the attack upon her began.”
Paige's gran Roseann Bothwell described the teenager as “an incredibly kind and selfless person”.
The court was also told police had “failed to reveal anything of significance” with regards a motive for the murder.
Mr McSporran: “The Crown is therefore unable to offer any explanation for the killing or for the nature and degree of violence inflicted on the girl.”
Ashay Ahmed runs the shop next to Delicious Deli, where Paige was murdered. He was the last person to see the 15 year old alive:
As well as murder, Leathem also today pled guilty to a charge of attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
