Man killed after being thrown from car then hit by Mercedes
A man has died after he was thrown from a car in a motorway crash and then struck by another vehicle.
Police Scotland are investigating the accident on the M74 motorway which resulted in the death of the 40-year-old, who had been a passenger in a Ford Galaxy people carrier.
The man had been sitting in the rear of the car when it struck a motorway barrier, before coming to rest on the central reservation.
As a result of the impact the man, who was one of five males in the vehicle, was thrown from the car and on to the road and was then hit by a silver Mercedes that was travelling north.
A number of people stopped to help after the accident, which took place shortly after 5pm on Friday November 18 on a stretch of the road near to Beattock, with Police Scotland urging witnesses to contact them.
The 40-year-old driver of the Ford and this three other passengers, who are aged 23, 24, and 63, were taken by ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital after suffering minor injuries. All have since been discharged.
Meanwhile, the 26-year-old driver of the Mercedes was not injured.
The road was closed for accident investigations, and reopened to vehicles shortly after 2am this morning.
