Man in court charged with pensioner's murder in Glasgow
24 year old Peter Telfer allegedly stabbed and killed 76 year old John Baker in the east end.
A man has appeared in court charged with murdering a pensioner in Glasgow's east end.
24 year old Peter Telfer allegedly stabbed and killed 76-year-old John Baker in Bridgeton, on June 29.
He also faces charges of robbing a woman of her handbag and assaulting with intent to rob another woman on June 28 in Glasgow city centre.
Telfer, from Calton, Glasgow, made no plea or declaration when he appeared in private at the city's sheriff court.
Papers from the court claim Telfer, at Stevenson Street near Abercromby Street followed Mr Baker and repeatedly stabbed him on the body with a knife or similar implement and robbed him of money.
Mr Baker was found with stab wounds in the early hours of June 29, but died later in hospital.
Prosecutors claim that on June 28, at the entrance to Central Station at Gordon Street, Telfer followed a woman approached her from behind and cut the strap on the bag she was carrying with a knife or similar implement, brandished a knife and wrestled with her and robbed her of her handbag.
Telfer is also alleged to have followed another woman on Albion Street and a bus shelter near Trongate, brandished a knife at her and demanded that she hand over her handbag with intent to rob.
He was remanded in custody by sheriff Sam Cathcart and will appear next week for a full committal hearing.
