The leaders of Renfrewshire and Glasgow City Council’s are being told to get on with it - when it comes to making a case for a Glasgow Airport rail link.

Transport Minister Humza Yousaf’s written to them ahead of a meeting with airport bosses today.

He’s telling Clyde News - money for the project is there:

Glasgow City Council Leader Frank McAveety said: “The City Deal is a £1.13 billion project. The flagship structural investment project within that is the rail link to Glasgow airport. Its importance to the future of the West of Scotland is clear – of the 29,000 jobs that may result from the City Deal half are linked to the construction of the rail link. “The outline business case actually already has detailed capital costs, economic modelling, traffic impact assessments and much more analysis all of which support the case for the rail link – and it will be delivered on schedule. “Recent projects which have been supported by Transport Scotland and the Scottish Government include the Borders Rail Link and the Montrose Rail Basin upgrade, both of which had a much less developed business case than that already established by the Airport Access Project. “The massive potential in the project cannot be realised without the fully engaged support of the Scottish Government and Transport Scotland. The respective leaders of both know that. It is time for all involved to take the necessary decisions to make the rail link happen.”
