Glasgow school jannies will walk off the job for five days next week in an escalation of their dispute.
Glasgow school jannies will walk off the job for five days next week in an escalation of their dispute with Cordia, an arm’s length company of Glasgow City Council.
The janitors trade union says that Cordia, and their political masters at Glasgow City Council, are still refusing to talk.
The janitors will begin a five day strike on Monday 16 May.
The jannies will once again be protesting outside Glasgow City Chambers on Monday 16 May at 12.30pm and will also be seeking the support of Glasgow’s new MSPs when they hold a lunchtime demo outside the Parliament on Wednesday 18 May.
Sam Macartney, UNISON Branch Officer, said: "Our jannies deserve justice. Glasgow City Council is treating them with contempt.
"We will be asking Glasgow’s newly elected MSPs to support the Justice4Jannies campaign”
The strikers already have the support of the Scottish Trade Union Congress and John McDonnell, Labour MP, and Shadow Chancellor.
UNISON estimates that Cordia are spending ÂŁ3,000 per DAY in an attempt to cover the janitors duties and break the industrial action.
Cordia are paying non-union, non-janitorial employees enhanced payments. Since 19 January, when a boycott of the disputed duties began, this will be nearly ÂŁ200,000.
The dispute could be settled for around ÂŁ120,000 per year.
