A Glasgow man has gone on trial accused of stabbing another man to death.

Sean McLauchlan is charged with murdering Scott Gillies at a flat above the Dolphin pub in Partick, in the city's West End.

McLauchlan, 25, claims he was acting in self-defence because his alleged victim was using lethal weapons against him during the alleged incident at Benalder Street on 16 May 2015.

He also claims he was trying to defend three women, who have all been cited as witnesses.

A jury at the High Court in Livingston was told on Monday that the accused faces two charges.

He is alleged to have pursued Mr. Gillies, who lived in Ravenscraig Drive, Glasgow, by punching him on the head causing him to fall to the ground then repeatedly punching him on the head and body to his injury.

He is also accused of murdering him by repeatedly striking him on the head and body with knives.

Judge Lord Burns told the jury that problems with equipment used to play DVDs in court meant that no witnesses could be called to give evidence until the technical issues had been resolved.

He adjourned the trial overnight until Tuesday 13 September.
