At the High Court in Glasgow judge Lady Rae ordered 27-year-old George Mullaney back to jail for 18 months.

Lady Rae told Mullaney: “You were convicted in 2010 of an extremely serious charge. Your victim is unlikely to ever lead an independent life .
“You were out on licence and within six months you are severely under the influence of alcohol with a knife.”
Mullaney was jailed for nine years i after being found guilty of assaulting Gary Sharkey in Talbot Terrace, Glasgow on November 28, 2009, in an unprovoked attack.
Mr Sharkey was knocked to the ground and repeatedly punched and kicked to the head and body.

“He says he was on his way home from a night out when he was attacked and disarmed his attackers and put the knife into the waistband of his trousers. He was then searched by the police.”
