Fresh calls made to police after murdered Caroline's case appears on Crimewatch
Police took 20 calls in response to the appeal on the Crimewatch show on television last night.
Police are still waiting on key evidence from people in Bonhill and Renton who can help them solve the murder of Caroline Glachan.
That's despite 20 calls in reponse to the appeal on the Crimewatch show on television last night.
It follows our Justice for Caroline campaign being commended in Westminster yesterday as MP Martin Docherty lodged an Early Day Motion in the Commons
Caroline Glachan, 14, was brutally attacked and her body was found on the banks of the River Leven in West Dunbartonshire on August 24 1996.
She had suffered blunt trauma to the head and drowned.
Despite extensive investigations, no-one has ever been arrested in connection with her murder.
Now, two decades on from her death, Police Scotland made a fresh appeal for information on the BBC's Crimewatch programme on Monday night.
Mrs McKeich, 60, spoke exclusively to Clyde News on the anniversary of her daughter's death and is grateful for the #JusticeForCaroline campaign we launched.
Last week she attended a press conference in which she called on the community to reveal the killer, as police plan fresh DNA tests.
She believes locals know who is responsible for her daughter's death and appealed for them to contact detectives.
She said: ''I would urge anybody to come forward, just to give me that peace and to give me closure.
''There's two questions I need answered - who and why."
Caroline, from Bonhill, was heading to meet her boyfriend in Renton, having spent an evening with friends, and took a short cut from shops along Dillichip Loan towards The Towpath and the Black Bridge.
On the Crimewatch show, the teenager's best friend Joanne Menzies, one of the last people to see Caroline alive, returned to the area where they parted for the final time.
Urging those with information to come forward, Ms Menzies told the programme: "Caroline was only a child, she was only 14.
"These people should now stand up and actually finally be counted as a human being and not hiding a sickening secret.''
MP Martin Docherty has lodged an Early Day Motion on behalf of Radio Clyde in the House of Commons saying;
"That this House notes that 25 August 2016 marks 20 years since the murder of 14 year old Caroline Glachan; recalls that on 25 August 1996 Caroline's body was found in the River Leven near Bonhill in an appalling crime that shocked the local community; expresses regret that 20 years on the murder remains unsolved and continues to cause pain to Caroline's family; welcomes the launch of Operation Fairing by Police Scotland in which specialist officers will re-examine the case using the latest forensic technology; commends the launch of Radio Clyde's #JusticeforCaroline campaign which has highlighted the need for a renewed focus on finding Caroline's killer; recognises that the people of Alexandria and the Vale of Leven are part of a strong and resilient community; and encourages the community to work together with police and other authorities so that Caroline's killer can finally be brought to justice and her memory put to rest."
