Football Fan Jailed for Attack
The 32 year old assaulted a security guard and fought with police while attempting to get into Ibrox.
A football supporter has been jailed for eight months and banned from attending matches for three years after an attack at a stadium. Stuart Robertson, 32, assaulted a security guard and fought with police at Ibrox on February 7.
Robertson, from Springburn, Glasgow, attacked the guard while attempting to get into the stadium during a match. When officers intervened he was violent and abusive, and made a sectarian remark, prosecutors said.
The incident took place at a Scottish Cup game between Rangers and Dunfermline Athletic. Robertson was found guilty of assault and threatening and abusive behaviour. He was sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court today.
Stephen Ferguson, a football prosecutor at the Crown Office, said: This kind of physical and verbal violence directed at people who are simply doing their jobs is unacceptable, whether at football matches or elsewhere.
The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service takes a zero tolerance approach to this type of behaviour and will continue to prosecute those who engage in it''.
