Police are appealing for a potential witness to come forward after the death of a woman who was hit by a car in Paisley.

Angela McGregor, 48, was struck by a Volkswagen Golf as she crossed Love Street, near to its junction with Wallace Street, at about 7.55pm on December 23 last year.

She was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in the Renfrewshire town where she died from her injuries two days later on Christmas Day.

The driver of the vehicle did not stop when Ms McGregor was knocked down but was later traced by police.

Officers say a small white car, possibly a Seat Ibiza or Leon, was in the vicinity of Love Street when the incident occurred.

Sergeant Kenny Malaney, of the divisional road policing unit Renfrewshire and Inverclyde division, said: "The driver and occupants of the white vehicle seen near to the scene of the collision may hold important information that will assist us with enquiries and it is vital that we speak to them.''

Police have urged anyone who has information about the incident to contact them on 101 or to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.
