A man has been arrested and more than £300,000 of diazepam tablets seized in a police raid.

Officers in North Lanarkshire searched an address in Reid Street, Coatbridge, on Tuesday and information led them to another property in Avalon Place, Airdrie.

The second address was searched on Wednesday and 305,000 diazepam tablets, with an estimated street value of £305,000, were recovered as part of the operation.

A 34 year-old man has been arrested in connection with alleged drugs offences.

A report is to be sent to the procurator fiscal. Detective Inspector Kevin Jamieson said: "We will continue to act on any information received to ensure that drug dealing has no home in our communities.

"This is a significant recovery of diazepam which has reduced the potential harm which could have been caused by these drugs, both in Lanarkshire and beyond.

"Anyone with information can contact officers on 101 or alternatively you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.''
