Woman dies following Sefton fire

An investigation's underway to determine the cause of the blaze.

A woman's died after fire crews were called to a blaze at a bungalow in Towers Avenue, Maghull, this morning.

When they arrived at the property just before 5.30am, crews found smoke issuing from the building.

Firefighters entered the building and began trying to extinguish the flames while searching for occupants. They found a woman who was unconscious and not breathing, and began to give emergency first aid, but despite their best efforts, the woman couldn't be saved.

North West Ambulance Service and Merseyside Police also attended.

The deceased’s next of kin have been informed and a file has been passed to the Coroner.

A joint investigation into the cause of the fire is taking place between Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service and Merseyside Police.
