Two people have been treated by paramedics after a fire broke out at a flat in Bootle in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday 1 March).

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service says crews were called to the blaze on the 9th floor of Strand House on Washington Parade at 2.21am and on scene at 2.27am. Four fire engines and an aerial appliance were deployed.

When they arrived, crews found the fire in a flat on the 9th floor of the building, which they quickly extinguished.

Two people who had left the flat before firefighters got there were treated with oxygen therapy for smoke inhalation at the scene, until paramedics arrived and provided further treatment. There are not thought to be any other casualties.

MFRS says the cause of the fire has not yet been established and crews remain at the scene.
