The family of 81-year-old John Newton, who died in a road traffic collision in Norris Green last weekend, have paid tribute.

Emergency services were called to Utting Avenue East at 6.27pm on Sunday 25 February to reports that a male pedestrian had been injured in a collision with a silver Ford Transit van.

John was taken to hospital but sadly passed away the following day.

In a tribute, John’s family said: “The family wish to express their sincere thanks to everyone that came to help our beloved Dad. John is missed by his whole family including children, grandchildren and the community we live in.

"He was well known in the area having owned his own garage and worked as a mechanic for over 50 years before semi-retiring last year. He was still very active and enjoying running and cycling.

"We hope that those responsible for his death or that know anything will have a turn of conscience and come forward to the police. He will forever be in our hearts.”
