The funeral of murdered Liverpool schoolgirl Ava White takes place this morning (23rd December).

The cortege will pass through the city as it makes it's way to a service at the Catholic Cathedral.

The 12-year-old was stabbed to death in the city centre in November, exactly one month before Christmas Day.

Today her family and friends gather at Liverpool's Metropolitan Cathedral to remember her young life which was cut short, sending shockwaves across the city.

Ava's death led to hundreds of people gathering at a vigil in Liverpool City Centre, playing her favourite songs and releasing balloons in her memory.

Ahead of today's service the family issued a short tribute calling Ava 'a much loved daughter and dearly loved sister'. They've also asked anyone wishing to pay their respects this morning not to wear black.

Following the funeral a short private service will be held at Anfield Crematorium.

A 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with Ava's murder.
