Tributes paid to Liverpool student killed in car crash
Rebecca Steer was knocked down and killed in the early hours of Sunday
Tributes have been paid to a Liverpool student who was killed in a car crash at the weekend.
22-year-old Rebecca Steer died in the early hours of Sunday morning following an incident in Oswestry.
She was struck by a car at around 2.50am Sunday after it mounted the kerb outside the Grill Out takeaway on Willow Street. Tragically, she died of her injuries shortly after arriving at hospital.
She was a student at Liverpool John Moores University, who have paid tribute:
Staff at Liverpool John Moores University, where Becky was a criminal justice undergraduate, described Becky as a “very special person, an exceptional student, friend and inspiration to many.”
A spokesperson said: “The whole university community is stunned and extremely saddened.
Becky was an excellent, dedicated student with a real ambition to be a police officer. She was the one that stayed behind to ask questions after every session.
“A budding talent and admirable young woman, we were privileged to have her as a student.
“Becky will be sorely missed and our thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones at this tragic time.”
Her family has also paid tribute:
Rebecca’s family have described her as ‘the most loving, talented and kind hearted person you could ever wish to know’.
They went on to say: “We are all completely devastated by the loss of our beautiful girl Rebecca.
“She always had a smile and a laugh that made everybody love her.
“She will be greatly missed by her many friends and family.
“She was the best daughter, sister, granddaughter and friend anyone could ask for.
“Rest in Peace beautiful girl.“
A number of arrests have been made in connection with Rebecca's death
A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
A further two men, aged 31 and 46 have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All three remain in police custody.
The 28-year-old man who was arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder and attempted murder remains in police custody.
A second pedestrian who was struck by the vehicle has now been released from hospital.
