Three year old fighting for life after being hit by car in Birkenhead

A three year old boy is in a critical condition after he was hit by a car in Birkenhead this morning

Police were called to Laird Street next to the North Star Pub at around 11.25am after reports of the incident came through.

Emergency Services took the boy to hospital for treatment to a head injury. His condition is described as critical.

The road was closed for several hours while investigations took place. Police say the driver of the car involved in the incident stopped at the scene and assisted them with their inquiries.

Local residents described how people rushed to help.

One man told Radio City News: " I just heard a fella say 'quick get an ambulance'. One of the lads from the pub picked him up and put him on the pavement. There were loads of people around and then the ambulance came"

"You're devastated when you hear a kid hurt like that, everyone's still in shock."
