Teen seriously hurt in Kirkby motorbike crash

Merseyside Police is investigating after a road traffic collision in Kirkby left a teenager on a motorbike with serious leg injuries.

The 15-year-old is believed to have been one of three teenagers who were on a red and black Honda when it collided with a black Ford Focus on Glovers Brow just before 6pm on Sunday.

The two other people on the bike left the 15-year-old lying in the road and pushed the bike away while members of the public called the emergency services.

The 15-year-old was not wearing a helmet and has been taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

A 32-year-old local man who was driving the Focus at the time was uninjured but badly shaken.

Officers closed Glovers Brow to carry out collision investigation work. CCTV enquiries are also being carried out to see if the collision was captured on camera.

Chief Inspector Keith McLachlan said: “This was a serious collision on a very busy road which could have led to many more people getting hurt. We believe there were three young men on the motorbike, which is extremely reckless and defies belief that they would take such a risk. As a result we now a 15-year-old boy in hospital with a serious leg injury who could have suffered far worse given he was not wearing a helmet. There is also a local man who has suffered a collision in his car and the shock and distress which comes with that.

“The two other youths on the bike left their friend injured in the road and wheeled the bike away before the emergency services arrived and we are hunting for them and the bike this evening. If anyone knows where that bike might be now or who was riding it at the time of the collision I would urge them to do the right thing and call us so that we can take it off the streets.”
