Three taken to hospital with serious burns after gas explosion in Chester

Three people have been left with serious burn injuries following a 'small' gas explosion in Chester city centre.

Emergency services were called to a commercial premises on Chester Market, Exchange Square at around 6:30pm on Wednesday 29th March.

Emergency services remain at the scene, and engineers have isolated electricity and gas to the area.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "Emergency services are currently at the scene of what is believed to have been a small gas explosion at a commercial premises within Chester Market.

"Three casualties have sustained serious burn injuries and have been taken to hospital in the care of paramedics.

"A cordon has been put in place and surrounding buildings evacuated as a precaution."

An update from the fire service at 7:30pm on Wednesday said: "Emergency services are still in attendance whilst the incident is being managed. Engineers have isolated electricity and gas to the area. "
