The highly anticipated Shakespeare North Playhouse in Prescot is set to open its doors after years of construction and we have the behind the scenes knowledge of what we have to look forward to.

What are the key dates?

Firstly, what's is important to know is that the theatre is set to open to the public on Friday 15th July, where we are all invited to experience an array of free festivities.

On the Friday evening, the playhouse are putting on the ceremony 'All the Joy That You Can Wish' - a celebration of local heroes including the builders who helped construct the venue and Prescot Cables FC players.

The festivities will then continue over the mid-July weekend with a set of performances curated by Prescot-born playwright Ashleigh Nugent.

Attendees can also come on down to experience performances of classical music, rap and DJ sets as well as participate in crafts and tours from 10am on Saturday and noon on Sunday.

What plays are on?

In terms of what's on over the coming months, old-schoolers can look forward to classics like A Midsummer Night’s Dream- running from September 22nd for one month.

Further highlights include 'Rubbish Romeo and Juliet' - where the playhouse says you can expect 'three idiots attempting to stage Shakespeare's most heart-breaking tragedy using only a box of Poundland props'.

Also on the bill is Twelfth Night, Strange Tale, The Yarn, Good Grief and, for the Liverpool comedy lovers out there, 'An Evening with Jimmy McGovern'- where the living legend will be interviewed by Johnny Vegas.

How is the theatre supporting the Prescot community?

What is also important to know is that this playhouse is trying to do something a little different to support its community during the cost of living crisis we are all living through.

They have committed to having a selection of ‘Pay What You Decide’ tickets which will be available to purchase at their shows, where attendees can pay what they like (as long as it is £3+) for a show.

Concession tickets will also be available throughout this year's run of shows.
