School leaders in Merseyside are paying tribute to the hard work of their students as they pick up their A Level results, after the most challenging academic year in recent history.

Exams had to be cancelled this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, meaning students are getting teacher assessed grades.

Michelle Bibby is Head of Sixth Form at City of Liverpool College, and has this advice for anyone getting their results this morning:

"Enjoy this moment and remember how fantastic your achievements are despite all of the challenge sthis year has thrown at you.

"If you're results aren't what you were expecting please do seek advice to help you make the decisions on yoru next steps but well done to everybody.

"Our students are already assessed once a month as well as doing three mock exams throughout the year so we continued with this approach and we utilised exam materials and worked closely with examining bodies to make sure the assessment was fair and no learner was disadvantaged".
