Royal Latest : Another two years until completion
Chief Exec Aiden Kehoe reveals project should be completed by 2020
The Chief Executive of the Royal Liverpool Hospital says the new building won't be open until 2020 - after confirming the current contract with Carrillion has been terminated.
Aiden Kehoe spoke as it was revealed the Government is set to step in to fund completion of the project.
It's hoped workers will be back on site within the next couple of months - with the scheme already 18 months behind schedule.
Kehoe says he's confident the hospital will now finally be built:
"I think we can start rebuilding in November but I think it's likely the scheme will be an eighteen month program so it's possible we can see completion by 2020."
"I'm very confident that we'll now get this hospital open and everyone's working really hard to get this done."
"Over the next few weeks we'll get those financial and legal agreements and get the contracts signed off."
