The Fir Tree Pub where Rhys Jones was murdered outside is to be converted into a community building for Croxteth.

The building has been closed and derelict for nearly a decade.

"we have reached an agreement that will ensure the venue's future for community use"

It's ten years ago this week that Rhys was hit by a stray bullet in the carpark outside fired by gang member Sean Mercer.

In a statement the owners Ei Group said:

"We are working very closely with the local council and also the landlord of the building, NSC Liverpool, and we have reached an agreement that will ensure the venue's future for community use.

"We expect the agreement to be finalised in the next few weeks."

Local Councillor Peter Mitchell said:

"Its been a long hard road and a very difficult and challenging time - especially in those first few years. Anywhere I went in the country and they asked where you were from; the moment they found out you were from Croxteth - the first thing they asked about was guns and gangs"
