A man's recovering in hospital after a suspected knife attack in Everton

At about 11.20pm, a man who had sustained slash injuries to his leg came to the attention of officers on patrol Salisbury Street.

The 32-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment. His condition is described as stable and his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Enquiries established the man had been assaulted by up to four offenders on Salisbury Street and shortly after a 39-year-old man from West Derby was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 attempted wounding with intent. He has been taken to a police station in Merseyside to be interviewed.

A full investigation has now been launched.

CCTV opportunities are being explored and the scene has been forensically examined.
