Detectives are appealing for information following a ram raid in St Helens in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 30 March.

At around 3am, officers were called to reports that three males were breaking into McColl’s on Pecker’s Hill Road in St Helens and money was stolen from the cash machine.

It was reported that the suspects drove off in a black four door hatchback that was parked at the side of the shop.

Officers attended the store and saw that the ATM machine was dismantled and emptied of its contents. A Black Ford Transit was left at the scene.

Officers remain at Peckers Hill Road and a cordon is in place this morning to conduct continued enquiries including witnesses and CCTV footage.

Detective Inspector Barbara Hebden said: “We are in the early stages of the investigation and keen to speak to any witnesses who saw suspicious activity on Peckers Hill Road in the early hours of this morning, or if you were driving by and have captured dashcam footage please get in touch.

“Business burglaries are not a victimless crime – they have a huge impact on shop workers and the people that use their facilities in our communities.

"We are determined to find these offenders and ensure other businesses are not targeted in future. If you were on Pecker Hill Road near McColl’s and saw the incident or anyone driving off, let us know too, as your dashcam, CCTV or other information could be key.”
