Made Of Stars is a ground-breaking immersive art installation opening its 10-day run in Liverpool tonight (11th October)
An eye-catching 30-foot pyramid, will showcase work that has been created by a community of global artists who have sought refuge in Liverpool.
The massive immersive piece will be based at the Black-E on Great George Street and is free for people to experience.
The project brings together inspiring stories from 14 refugee artists led by Iranian film maker Elia Sadeqi, presenter Jaime Perez Sandoval from El Salvador, Mudaser Akbari, a young Afghan boxer and Monira Whadat, an Afghan seamstress.
Artist Elia Sadeqi came to Liverpool for refuge 12 years ago and told us it’s a great occasion not only for Liverpool but also for the artists involved.
Elia Said: “It’s a good opportunity to speak out because many of us, where we come from, we don’t have freedom of speech.
“This project will allow us to speak out and tell about the issue we are facing.”
The Made Of Stars will bring together stories from around the world whilst exploring mysterious South American towers and familiar Liverpool landmarks.
Elias films are to raise awareness about human rights issues and to highlight laws which if enforced would put an end to people being displaced.
He encourages anyone of any age to attend the free event to enjoy the unique experience and to show support.
“Just by turning up and seeing this project, and the stories, will give a new understanding and a new perspective on what it’s like in other parts of the world” he said.
Made Of Stars is led by Turntable Theatre who are working with independent creative companies including Sola Arts, Show Studio and Focal Studios.
The project is funded by The Arts Council, Culture Liverpool and The Unity Theatre.
After its showing at Black-E Liverpool (Tuesday 11th - Thursday 20th October) the installation then visits three other locations across Merseyside including Knowsley and St Helens.
Tickets to all events are available now.
