A murder inquiry is under way after a 21-year-old man died after being stabbed in a bar in Liverpool on Saturday night.
Sam Cook from Crosby was knifed after a fight broke out just before midnight in the basement area of the Empire Bar on Seel Street in the city centre.
"We need to hear from anyone who witnessed an altercation, the incident itself, or may have seen, heard or come into contact with anyone involved."
The victim was taken to hospital but pronounced dead at 1.23am on Sunday.
Merseyside Police have launched a murder investigation and are supporting the victim's family with specially trained officers.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Tivendale, of Merseyside Police, said: "Our investigation is in its very early stages but we initially believe that some kind of altercation may have taken place in the basement area of the bar, leading to a tragically fatal attack.
"We need to hear from anyone who witnessed an altercation, the incident itself, or may have seen, heard or come into contact with anyone involved.
"You may have heard words being exchanged or someone running from the bar. All information provided will be acted upon and may be vital in identifying who was responsible and bringing them to justice.''
A cordon is in place while forensic enquiries and searches are carried out and CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing.
The force said they are looking to urgently speak to anyone who saw the incident, or an altercation in the basement of the bar.
A 20-year-old man from Anfield has been arrested on suspicion of murder and a 19-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both have been taken to a police station for questioning by detectives.
