A 13 year old girl has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, as hundreds of young people gathered at the Albert Dock tonight (Tuesday 19th July).

Merseyside Police have confirmed dozens of officers descended on the docks tonight after a fight broke out among hundreds of young people gathered in the area.

They were called just after 6.40pm, and a 15-year-old boy has since been taken to hospital after suffering a cut to his arm.

A dispersal order has been introduced around the Albert Dock area of the city centre and officers remain in the area to provide a visible presence and deal with any further incidents.

The order comes under Section 35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour & Policing Act 2014, which gives police officers and police community support traffic officers powers to direct people they suspect are causing or likely to cause crime, nuisance or anti-social behaviour to members of the public to leave a designated area and not return for up to 48 hours.

Police say CCTV images are being reviewed and any offences discovered will be dealt with.
