Merseyside Police launch a fresh appeal for Southport student Adam Smeaton

Merseyside Police are appealing for fresh information - six weeks after the disappearance of student Adam Smeaton.

There have been no confirmed sightings of Adam since Thursday 9th August, however some unconfirmed sightings from different witnesses identify someone fitting Adam's description.

The first sighting is on the sand hills of the neighboruign Sand Factory, a day or so before he went missing.

The second is of a car linked to the one Adam was driving.

Adam is thought to have driven his mum's red Ford Fiesta to the RSPB car park on Marshside that afternoon.

Another witness believes he saw the car parked next to a small, black car driven by two men believed to be Polish and regular visitors to the RSPB car park.

When asked if the police were still hopeful to find Adam alive, Detective Inspector Jackie Guinness said: "We are still hopeful, we can't give up hope.

"We are hoping for his family we can find some happy conclusion to this, however as time goes by we have to face reality.

"We just want to find Adam and bring him home to his family.

"We welcome anyone who has any genuine lines of enquiry and I would ask anyone who recognises themselves or believes they have seen or spoken to Adam, or anyone fitting his description to contact us.

"I would also continue to appeal to anyone who may have dash-cam footage which captured Adam's red Ford Fiesta in or around the RSPB car park to come forward."
