Police Dog Paddy sniffs out £30,000 in cash hidden in car in Netherton
The cash was stashed in the steering wheel column
A Merseyside Police Dog's helped recover £30,000 of suspected dirty money hidden in a car in Netherton.
At around 10pm, a VW Golf was stopped on Dunningsbridge Road by officers and with the help of Police Dog Paddy, around £30,000 was found hidden behind the steering column.
Following further enquiries at a nearby address, a further £8,000 was seized by officers in connection to this incident.
A 32-year-old man from Waterloo was arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession of a controlled Class B drug (cannabis), drug driving and acquiring/using/possessing criminal property. He has been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.
Detective Constable Chris Condliff said:
“We suspect that the cash seized has been accumulated through criminal activity.
“We know that criminals use our road networks to transport ill-gotten cash and property, drugs and weapons. Preventing them from doing so deals a significant blow to their ability to commit crime, and helps us put them before the courts.
“No criminal should profit from misery while our wider law abiding communities work hard to earn an honest living. If you know someone involved in crime, please let us know so we can take them off our streets.”
Inspector Katie Wilkinson from Merseyside Police's Dog Section said:
“Our highly-trained specialist rummage dogs can find anything from drugs, cash and firearms and ammunition, and we’re pleased to see PD Paddy help officers during this incident.
