As tougher sentences for death by dangerous driving come into force, a Merseyside mum is speaking out about the pain she suffers knowing her daughters killer is a free man.

Four year old Violet Grace Youens died in 2017, after she was knocked down by a stolen car, doing more than 80mph in a 30 zone.

The driver, Aidan McAteer and his passenger Dean Brennan, both from Prescot, were released from prison after serving just half of their sentences.

From today, under new legislation, Judges are able to hand down life sentences to dangerous drivers who kill.

Violet's mum Becky says her family will never get the justice her daughter deserves :

"It was a complete injustice to hear those words, don't expect double figures. Don't expect double figures for my baby's life?

"It should haunt them for what they've done because they've ruined everything. If only they could see, really see and really listen, maybe they would have a slight understanding for the destruction and trauma that they have caused".
