Merseyside MP Marie Rimmer's called for the Government to bring in tougher penalties for knife crime - after another fatal stabbing in Liverpool.

Fatah Warsame died from a single knife wound in the early hours of Sunday on Hanover Street.

The 20 year old was originally from Cardiff.

Rimmer - who has seen fatal stabbings in the St Helens South &Whiston constituencies - says the current system just isn't tough enough.

"It's got to be addressed, it's got to be addressed legally. You should always be charged with carrying a knife - being in possession of a knife. Because if you're going out with a knife in your pocket, you've considered using it.

"There's absolutely no excuse for people to wander around the streets with knives in their pockets. If you are caught - you should be punished.

Marie's backing our #NoMoreKnives campaign - launched after a series of fatal stabbings on Merseyside. The death of Fatah Warsame is the fifth fatal incident involving a knife in our region, in 2018.

"It's heartbreaking, and very upsetting for me as an MP - let alone those families who are living without their sons. It's dreadful, life-wrecking for the families."
