Merseyside Dad killed in Storm Eunice 'taken too soon'

The family of 68-year-old Stephen Matthews has paid tribute to him

The family of a Merseyside dad who died in Storm Eunice say he was 'tragically taken too soon.'

68-year-old Stephen Matthews died following a road traffic incident in Netherton on Friday, 18 February.

He was in a vehicle when debris struck the windscreen at Switch Island / Dunningsbridge Road at around 2pm.

Stephen, a passenger in the vehicle, was injured and paramedics attended, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family have issued the following tribute:

“Stephen was a popular and well-known member of the Aintree community who was tragically taken from us too soon.

“The beloved husband of Sylvia and devoted Dad to Jonathan and Robert, he will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends.”

Stephen’s family have asked for privacy as they grieve for their loss.
