Thousands of train passengers on Merseyside face a day of disruption as staff across the railway walkout for 24 hours in a row over the introduction of driver only trains

Members of the RMT Union have been on strike since midnight on Monday - and will return to work on Tuesday

It's over plans to introduce new fleets of driver only trains - without a guard - on Merseyrail and Northern

The Union claims that passenger safety will be at risk - something which both Merseytravel and Northern deny

The advice is to check before you travel - but here's what to look out for if you're planning to use the trains today

Merseyrail

Trains will run between 7am and 7pm - but there will be a break in travel between 11am and 2pm.

All services will be six car trains - and on all routes and destinations

Merseyrail are planning to run services every 30 minutes

The timetable is subject to change - depending on how many train drivers arrive at work

Northern Rail

40% of services are running today - Trains will start to run at 7am - and start to wind down by 5pm before ending at 7pm

Rail replacement buses are also in place
