A community is coming together to raise money which would be used to build a memorial park in memory of Olivia Pratt-Korbel who was shot dead in Liverpool.

The plan from community groups, faith leaders and councillors in West Derby have had the backing of Olivia's family, and MP Ian Byrne who is helping to co-ordinate the project.

Nine-year-old Olivia was fatally shot when a gunman forced his way into her family's home on Kingsheath Avenue, Dovecot in August last year.

Organisers of the proposed memorial park say they will also work closely with local charity The Bobby Colleran Trust to include a road safety element to the garden. This would include mini roads and vehicles for children to use, as well as real safety signs and signals as part of a wider road safety awareness scheme in the area.

West Derby MP Ian Byrne said: “The aim of this wonderful project is to turn a piece of unloved land into a community green space, named in memory of Olivia and to benefit local children now and for future generations. The community here in Dovecot wants to honour Olivia and a memorial park in the heart of Olivia’s community seems a fitting way to do this

“Our local community has so many decent people and businesses wishing to be involved in this positive project following recent horrific events. The good people of Dovecot need to be heard and empowered and given the tools and resources to look after each other.”

The community is hoping to start work on the memorial park for Olivia as soon as possible.

Members of the public can donate to the Olivia Pratt-Korbel memorial park via the online fundraising page.

Those interested in offering their time, tools and materials to the memorial park are being asked to contact Ian Byrne MP's constituency office via email.
