Man jailed after stealing £6000 from Bootle Newsagents
Alexander Porter was given 3 year sentence after admitting robbery
A man has been jailed today (Monday 21 February) for a robbery which took place in Bootle earlier this month.
Alexander Porter, aged 42, of Bedford Road, Bootle, was sentenced to three years in prison after admitting robbery.
At around 3pm on Monday 10th January, Porter assaulted a member of staff at News Factor on The Esplandade, Bootle.
He then stole around £6,000 in cash from the shop and made off from the scene on a pedal bike.
The member of staff suffered an injury to his eye during the incident.
Following an extensive police investigation, Porter was arrested on Friday 21 January, charged and remanded into custody.
Detective Inspector James Halpin said: “To steal from and assault someone who was simply carrying out their business in the community is despicable and we welcome that Porter is now behind bars.
“Robberies of businesses are far from victimless crimes – they have a huge impact on people living and working in Merseyside, who provide a vital service to our communities.
“We will take robust action against anyone found to have committed a business robbery. We take these crimes extremely seriously and – as in this case - offenders can expect to spend time in jail.
“Our message to offenders involved in this type of criminality is clear – there is no hiding place. We will use every tactic available to us to track you down and put you before the courts.”
