A man from Liverpool has been jailed after a firearm was found hidden in a garden.

Dylan Maher, 28, of Clayford Crescent, was sentenced to eight years for possession of a firearm and ammunition at Liverpool Crown Court today, Tuesday 5 September.

On Wednesday 18 May last year, officers received a report that a firearm had been discovered inside a bag, which had been placed behind a shed in a garden in the Toxteth area.

The weapon was seized and later confirmed as a viable Webley Mark VI revolver.

Forensic investigations found DNA from Maher on the internal barrel of the firearm, which led to his arrest.

Maher denied the offences, but following a trial he was found guilty at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday, Monday 4 September.

Detective Inspector John Mullen said: “We are determined to make Merseyside a safer place by removing firearms and the organised crime groups who would use them from our streets.

“Maher denied the offences, but we were able to prove that he possessed this firearm following a thorough investigation. He will now have time to reflect on his actions in prison.

“In this case and in so many others, information from communities makes a big difference.

“If you provide information on where you think firearms and ammunition are being stored, carried and used, we will take action to make the communities safer.”
