Man in hospital after attack by gang of youths

A man has been assaulted in Sankey Valley Park in Warrington.

It happened yesterday afternoon just after 4.20pm when a group of up to six youths attacked the man behind Weddell Close.

The youths, who were wearing dark tracksuits, made off on from the scene along the canal path towards the bridge near Ledyard Close, it is believed that some may have been on bikes and others on foot.

As a result of the incident the victim suffered serious injuries and has been taken to Aintree Hospital.

Detective Inspector Helen Banusic said: “The investigation is in its very early stages and police are trying to establish the circumstances. Officers are in the area to provide reassurance to members of the public who use the park and to speak to anyone who may have seen something.

“We are also keen to speak to anyone who was driving in the area of Sankey Valley Park and the roads surrounding it between 2pm and 6pm with dashcam footage to contact us.

“If you are in the area and have information that could assist us with our enquires please contact us, or if you have any concerns speak to one of our local officers.”
