A man has denied the attempted murder of a teenage girl who was shot on her way home from school.

The 15-year-old was seriously injured while standing at a bus stop in Toxteth, Liverpool, on March 1.

A 20-year-old man also suffered a non life-threatening gunshot injury to his hand in the incident on Upper Warwick Street at about 5.10pm.

Rio Jones, 19, of Jermyn Street, Toxteth, appeared via videolink at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday.

He pleaded not guilty to two counts of attempted murder, possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and possessing a Class B drug.

Honorary recorder of Liverpool Judge Andrew Menary QC remanded Jones into custody until his trial on October 17.

The trial is expected to last two to three weeks.
